Traffic Spike — Autoscaling Isn't a Strategy

SAP/Cloud Migration·#SPIKE

A before/after simulation of a sudden 10x traffic spike. The baseline (reactive autoscaling only) queues, saturates its DB pool, and cascades into 5xx failures while instances slowly boot; the protected path (edge cache + rate limiting) keeps the origin and database out of the blast radius. Ends on: autoscaling reacts, a traffic strategy prevents.

SIMULATION SPEC
CONCEPTReactive autoscaling vs. edge cache + rate limiting under a 10x traffic spike
CAPTURE SOURCEEmbedded (React + framer-motion)
SLIDER PARAMSStep through 9 scenes: normal → 10x spike → over-capacity → scaling lag → DB pressure → cascade → reset → controlled → end
OUTPUT METRICBaseline vs protected: traffic, queue depth, p99 latency, DB pool, error %, instances

HOW THIS RUNS

This is a live, interactive recreation embedded directly on the page — not a static diagram. Step through the scenes above to watch traffic reroute across the tiers in real time. The embedded simulation is recorded on screen, and that capture becomes the content.
